I have had a skin rash for several moths. I have applied a presciption cream daily for about a month. Now I have large dark brown patches which are painful under my arm pits and a rash that has exploded on my skin. All over on face chest arms legs neck etc. . . otherwise no symptoms. We have changed soaps to sensitive skin etc. . .

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Use of deodorants and antiperspirants have ingredients that can irritate the skin, and any inflammation can lead to a thickening. You are suggested to stop the use of these.

Sensitive skin, exposure to sunlight and hormonal changes may also cause brown patches or hyper-pigmentation. Take care of your hygiene, keep skin moist by applying moisturizer or calmine lotion.

Ointments like clotrimazole or miconazole are effective. However, you are suggested to get clinically examined by a dermatologist to rue out melasma, actinic keratosis or melanoma, etc. Get treated at the earliest.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
