Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Suggest Treatment For Severe Stomach Bloating After Knee Replacement Surgery
I had severe stomach bloating after knee replacement surgery. The surgeon said it was caused by the anesthesia and had a term for the condition. Can you give me the term and do I need to let future surgeons know about the condition (allergic reaction)?
This is not an allergic reaction and is not something you need to worry specifically. There are several things that may cause bloating after surgery. One is hyperinflation of the lungs during assisted breathing while on anesthesia. Also, stress due to the surgery may cause an increase in stomach acids and bloatedness. The drugs used may also cause stomach irritation and bloatedness.
I hope this answers your query. I remain at your disposal in case further medical assistance is needed.
Regards,
Dr. Antoneta Zotaj General and Family Physician
