Suggest Treatment For Severe Stomach Pain After Taking Excedrin
Before an exertive mtn. bike ride in high altitude, I took two extra strength excedrin for a headache. I ate granola and yogurt about an hour before the ride and drank plenty of water during. Towards the end of the ride I began experiencing severe stomach and abdomen pain. The pain has lasted about four hours, but is subsiding. I was very weak and chilled. Could this be a bad reaction to the excedrin?

Hello,
The extra strength of Excredin contains high dose of Acetaminophen, Aspirin and Caffeine. The severe stomach pain after the consumption of this tablet is related to acute gastritis issue most likely which can happen even with intake of granola, yogurt and plenty of water.
My guidelines at present:
- Avoid further doses of Excredin
- Take proton pump inhibitor as pantoprazole (40 mg) with sips of water on empty stomach
- Syrup mylanta (10 ml) every 6 hourly
- Prefer easily digestible food stuffs as organic fresh fruits, whole grains and avoid spices totally
Consult your doctor at any point of time if the pain or discomfort persist after doing above.
