Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

Swelling, if it is red, warm and tender to touch indicates secondary infection there. This will need antibiotics for 5-7 days, along with drainage of pus collection if any. Kindly take him to doctor for the same.

Meanwhile, he can take acetaminophen or ibuprofen for relieving any pain. Avoid intravenous drug abuse in future, as this can lead to serious complications like HIV/hepatitis B infection, endocarditis (infection inside heart) or vascular thrombosis.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam T. K., Pediatrician
