Dear
Thanks for raising your health concern and following is step wise approach in case of edema:
1. oedema is the accumulation of excessive amount of tissue fluid in the
subcutaneous tissue or serous sac and since you have swelling of ankle (localized edema) thus probably you might have problem related with heart (congestive cardiac failure)
2. You need to consult a medicine specialist who will exclude other causes of pedal edema like: nutritional edema (protein losing), cirrhosis of liver,
varicose veins, lymph obstruction (filariasis),
nephrotic syndrome, drug induced (use of pain killers, steroids, blood pressure medicines) with relevant examination and suitable investigation.
3. Dytor (frusemide) is a loop diuretic used mainly in hypertension and edema associated with
heart failure and although you can take it for further days/weeks (dose and duration) is adjusted according to response but make sure to check with following parametres since it has ADR (
adverse drug reaction) on kidney/heart/ liver:
. causes fluid & electrolyte imbalance
. lowers blood pressure (hypotension)
.
hepatic dysfunction & hyperglycemia ( check regularly liver function and sugar)
. Ototoxic (check with E.N.T. physician if observe any sound problem in ears)
. Hypokalemia and magnesium depleteion can cause
cardiac arrhythmia (so check with potassium & magnesium level every fortnightly) or take a potassium sparing diuretic alongwith Dytor.
4. To get rid of the disease/problem one must consult a certified medicine specialist who will as described earlier will perform a meticulous examination to get to the root cause of the problem.
