Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I think I have phlybitis(spelling?) in my left leg around my ankle to my toes, although my leg up to my crotch gets extremely puffy and tight like it s filled with water. It s been bothering me off and on for about a year with it swelling and then returning to normal size after about a week, but now it stays and never leaves. I cannot wear my shoes because they do not fit on my left foot. I do not drink, but occasionally and I do not smoke. Thank you. Sincerely, Nancy Werner. YYYY@YYYY
You could be having either Deep vein thrombosis, possibly with some re-canalization, or Long Saphenous Varicose veins of the left lower limb. You will have to get a venous Doppler study to diagnose the exact condition. Temporary management can be done by keeping you left leg elevated as much as is possible. In the mornings the leg swelling may be less. You can wear a grade 2 compression stockings from toes to mid thigh left side, at this time, and may remove it before going to sleep. Thus you can prevent the leg swelling.
