Suggest Treatment For Severe Tinnitus In The Left Ear
Yesterday I jumped off a cliff about 30-40 feet into water and my ear started to hurt really really badly for 1-2 hours then the pain went away. Today when I woke up I keep continuing to hear a ringing noise in my left ear. Is there any chance this can be fixed will it ever go away?
Tinnitus is common issue and most causes are benign and temporary. However it this lasts for longer period then it should be evaluated. Tinnitus can occur due to causes like chronic ear infection, perforated eardrum, Eustachian tube dysfunction, Meniere's disease, TMJ disorders, Acoustic Neuroma etc.
Tinnitus is not a disease in itself but it is a symptom that indicates that there is some underlying illness. I would suggest you to consult an otolaryngologist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like audiometry, X-ray and MRI can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly.
In case if ringing does not resolve then you can be advised medicines like Tricyclic Anti-depressant like Amitryptiline, anti anxiety medication like Alprazolam, as well as Multivitamin supplements can be advised.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care.
Regards,
Dr. Ivan R. Rommstein, General Surgeon
