Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I was wondering if you could help me with a worry I have about having a tooth extracted and a filling at the dentists this Tuesday? I've recently got rid of an abcess and I'm in excruciating pain constantly with toothache! I'm managing to keep the pain to a minimum by using a hot water bottle, which im aware is a bad idea but it's really helping me at this moment. But I'm worried that the numbing won't work and the extraction is going to hurt and I'll be in more pain than I was to begin with. I have massive dental phobia and had a panic attack last time I was due to have it out. I'm currently on a sedation list but cannot wait a further eight months when I've been having toothache for a year and a half now! Is there any advice you can give to me that would calm my nerves or make me feel more at ease about the situation please? I feel at ease with my dentist she is lovely but I'm petrified, especially after my friends have told me horror stories about their trip to the dentist.
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
As per your query I can very much understand your fear, but would like to assure you that nothing is wrong and as your condition seems at present there is no.proem that will not let the anaesthesia to work.. It only does not work in extreme cases of severe swelling and pus formation, otherwise it works.. So I would like to assure you that you do not need sedation and simply local anaesthesia will help in providing relief.. As of now you can start with a course of antibiotics and painkillers like Ibuprofen to relieve pain and reduce infection and proceed for extraction to permanently resolve the pain..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
