Hello I am very concerned about my genital area i am a 27 year old and from some time now i have experienced a severe yeast infection at least thats what i thought but my clitoris has a white film over it and sores and so does my labia menor and in the arch of my labia mayor. I also found small wars on top of my vulva and a dark spot on my right labia minor. I am scared of what i have looked up i had a paps done almost 5 years ago and everything came out negative. Hallow Dear,

It seems from your history that you are mostly having yeast or candida infection. This is a fungus. Of course, it will be wise to get the discharge examined from laboratory to conform the diagnosis.

This discharge is white curdy in nature having flakes. It gives considerable itching also. Though this infection is a sexually transmitted infection, it can be achieved from some other non-sexual causes like commode use, unhygienic practises, etc. Once, one of the partner had been infected by this, the other sexual partner also naturally gets affected.

This infection can be treated with local antifungal pessaries. After inserting the pessary, you should lie down for at leat one hour to prevent the pessary from falling down. It is advisable to clean vagina with Lactycid which is a Lactobacilli vaginal preparation. Vagina has got a natural flora of Lactobacilli. When Lactobacilli get killed, may be by antibiotics or due to loss of immunity, fungal infection creeps in. Hence adjuvant treatment with Lactycid.

Since this infection is very easily transmitted to the sexual partner through sex, both the partners should get treated simultaneously to prevent reinfection (even if the male partner is not having any symptoms). Along with the medical treatment, please follow the tips given bellow. These apply to both the partners.

1. Observe complete sexual abstinence till both the partners are declared cured.
2. Shave the private parts clean to avoid reinfection.
3. Boil the underwear daily.
4. You may use panty liners.
5. Clip the nails short.

Usually this infection gets cured within 7 days treatment.

I hope this helps you.
