Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My wife is suffering from severe vertigo. I think it affects her in a more debilitating manor because she is prone to motion sickness, therefor the extreme dizziness makes her physically ill. She has had it once before about 18 months ago. This current bout started about noon on Friday and she hasn t been able to do much more than lay quietly near the bathroom. I was told there are some maneuvers out there that can relieve the symptoms.
You are suggested to get your wife clinically examined by an ENT. She will have to get some blood & imaging tests along with examination of the ear canal & audiology test done.
Severe vertigo is treated with a course of Vertin-32(meclizine) & rest. Do not let your wife drive or do any heavy work. She should take home made nutritious food & stay well hydrated.
She should avoid addictions if any. Physiotherapy works well in BPPV, Epley and Semont maneuvers are exercises done under the observation of the ENT specialist & physiotherapist.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K
