Suggest Treatment For Sharp Pain In Calf Muscle After Prolonged Walking

I am spending a summer in France and have been walking a great deal (averaging 6 miles a day--last Thursday it was 11 according to my pedometer). Yesterday, I was walking down the stairs and came down only very slightly strangely on my right leg/foot. Immediately I had a horrible and sharp pain in my calf muscle that has not gone away since I slept last night I didn t do anything unusual except take this slightly false step. Do you have any ideas what this could be? Thank you!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The symptoms seem to be related to a strained calf muscle. I suggest to use an anti inflammatory medication such as Ibuprofen to relieve the pain. I also suggest to use magnesium supplements for muscle relaxation. I recommend to have warm shower and use warm compresses to relax the muscles.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi
