Hi! I was out for a run and have experience running for about a mile almost non stop. Today I wen out trying to challenge myself to do it all the way with out stopping. at about .2 miles I got this really sharp pain in my throat and I was breathing pretty heavily. I stop to walk it off and the heavy breathing went away, and the pain went down but did not go all the way. I tried to keep running but the pain would just come back. So I stopped all together. After I went in side the pain pretty much went a way... but there was discomfort in my throat and some ever so slight pain. I started coughing some too. Any thoughts? Today is not cold at all by the way. It is pleasant. around 65 or 70 degrees. So I know it is not the cold.
The pain in throat could have been caused due to dryness of the inner lining of throat called mucosa. It would get relieved on its own in few days time however, you could drink some warm fluids, do some warm saline gargles and take steam inhalation to speed up the recovery. You can also take cough lozenges like Strepsils to provide soothing sensation over the area.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Anoop Kumar, General & Family Physician
