Suggest Treatment For Sharp Stabbing Pain In The Chest Area

I am a 55 year old female. For the last two days I have being having sharp stabbing on the left side of my chest, underneath my breast. The intensity of the pain is an 8 out of 10. It comes every two to three hours and last for 10-12 seconds. I have good health. My last doctors apt was, four months ago. I do drink. I have a drink three to four times a week. Choice of drink is cabernet. Occasionally I will have a cocktail. Maybe once, every two or three months. Any suggestions?

Hello,

The symptoms you describe are consistent with a musculoskeletal cause for your chest pain. This kind of pain and sometimes last for just a few seconds and is associated with muscle spasms.

If the pain comes on with activity, especially with your left arm, this would also support this cause.

The chest pain that you are having is not consistent with anything related to your heart, since pain coming from your heart would almost always last minutes rather than seconds.

Any cause coming from the lungs would also last more than just a few seconds.

I would suggest trying to rest as much as you can, and taking Tylenol or Ibuprofen for the pain.

Usually this kind of pain will resolve over a week or two, if it lasts longer than that I would suggest seeing a doctor to get an examination to make sure this is the right diagnosis.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
