Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have been experiencing pain in my wrist which gets much worse at night. To the point that it wakes me up/keeps me awake. The pain, which is sharp but prolonged is mainly around the upper wrist and into my thumb and first two fingers. It feels as though my hand is in a bad cramp/numbness. Last night when the pain was really bad the veins on the top of my hand were raised/bulging.

General & Family Physician, Dr. Pinak De's Response
Hi,
I can understand your problem. Considering the timing of the pain and distribution from wrist along thumb index and middle finger, it all indicates towards a condition called carpel tunnel syndrome. It is a condition where the median nerve gets compressed at the level of wrist. There are certain conditions which predisposes to this condition and these include hypothyroidism, rheumatoid arthritis or any other arthropathy, Diabetes, ganglion, repetitive injury will working like computer users, work involving vibration to hand or requiring strong grip etc.
Regarding treatment specific physiotherapy, local steroid injection, Compression Release Surgery are the options. For this you will have to get in touch with your local doctor.
Hope this helped. Do let us know.
