Suggest Treatment For Shingles On The Legs, Arms And Face
24 year old kid with chicken pox looking spots. Doctor says allergic reaction; gave her prednisone 3 days ago. Spots still showing up. Has had ckn pox shot and booster on schedule as child/teen. Chiropractor thinks it might be shingles but it s on her trunk, legs, arms and face. Should we call doctor back in am and tell him it s still getting worse or will preds kick in any time now? Works at gym...doctor says not staff infection. Looks terrible. Thank you
Hi. As per your case history you are having allergic dermatitis. Shingles are localized, so it is not a possibility. My treatment advice is - 1. Avoid using cosmetic products and other new products like soap or perfume. 2. Apply a mild topical steroid cream like mometasone cream on the lesions. 3. Take an antihistamine medication like levocetrizine twice daily for 7-10 days. 4. Other treatment options are oral steroid like prednisone or betamethasone taken only after consulting a dermatologist.
Thanks. Dr. Harshit bhachech. MBBS, DDVL.
