I had my first shingles out break about two years ago but I did not now it was shingles because I was misdiagnosed with staph infection. The shingles blister was on my forehead and it was badly infected, the doctor had me go to a surgeon and they had to cut open the blister and gave me antibiotics and cream. About a year later I go the same blister on my forehead, went to different doctor and they told me I had shingles. This is my fourth outbreak in 5 month period. Is there anything I can do to help prevent some many out breaks, I am only 33 years old. Is this normal?
Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
There is no permanent cure for shingles as the virus remains in your body even after the blisters disappear. The sores will reappear at times of stress or low immunity. The blisters are also prone to secondary bacterial infection. I would recommend having your blood sugar tested to ensure you don't have diabetes as well as an HIV test as you would be prone to infections if you have either of these conditions. You may just be dealing with a lot of emotional stress right now? With each episode you will need aciclovirantiviral to help the blisters to disappear.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
