Suggest Treatment For Shooting Pain In Foot While Walking Or Standing

i am a welder and wear steel toe and metatarsal boots, about six weeks ago a new spool of metal core wire bounced off the top of my foot immediately causing an egg shaped knot on top, i reported it through the proper chain of command as i knew this would be dealt with through work comp..however, my supervisor didn t seem concerned and my safety manager brushed it off as well..i continued to work in the same conditions(heavy duty), wearing the boots that i could hardly get on and off without sceaming, for two and a half weeks after initial injury..pain worsened, knot went down and bruising came out very slowly over this time..i went to the safety dept again and the manager was off so i showed our olny nurse and she said she would have to call my manager for work comp approval to be seen by dr..next day she took me..x-ray showed nothing, diagnosed as severe contusion and given mobic for inflammation..dr also stated that contusion should have been better at this point and ordered bone scan..nurse was fired two days later and safety manager didn t check on the appt for bone scan as i had asked him to..another two weeks passed and i went to hr manager to get help in getting treatment..at this point, the pain is radiating all over my foot and in my ankle..it is shooting pains in all directions even when im laying down with foot up, and when i do even minimal walking or standing condition worsens, swelling severe, pain unbearable, and color of injury site turns to red and a liitle green...with at least a 24 hour period of laying down with foot up the conditon returns to the sporadic radiating shooting pains..last week dr ordered mri, prescribed toradol, and gave restrictions for work to allow me a sitting light duty position including wearing an orthopedic boot, however just walking from vehicle through the warehouse to position makes conditions severe again..pain/swelling with burning sensation and injured site colors come up...mri came back today with no diagnostic abnormality..i was devastated as i thought this would be answer and solution time..i was barely on my feet today and when i came home and took boot off, which i make sure is not tight, and my injured foot (left by the way) was swollen on top and bottom and toes too..the bottom swollen so bad it tingles and the entire foot was a splotchy red color(almost like an under the skin rash)..the dr is ordering an appt at our local bone and joint clinic..i tried to be as explanatory as possible with symptoms and timeline..im worried that the delay in my company taking action may have worsened the condition..i have no desire to pursue any legal action as they are still exhausting other options by sending me to the bone and joint clinic..however, the dr would not even speak with me about the lack of findings in the mri and any other possible diagnosis..i only want to know what could be wrong with my foot to have such strange and severe pain and conditions and for them to only to continue to worsen..also the colors of my injury site coming and going with the amount of time i spend on my feet is odd..any ideas would be greatly appreciated..i have to be informed when i go to visits as i have on occasion come across dr s who either don t know or just don t care..not trying to judge, just personal experience..thank you for any wisdom..nevermind, i can t pay for answer, will to continue my own research..thanx anyway

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Apply on pain areas (Salonpas-Hot, Zostrix), Capscain topical for 3-4 consecutive weeks. Do MRI of involved areas, it will tell the exact causes. consult an orthopedist and internal medicine specialist locally.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Sunny Madar, General & Family Physician
