Suggest Treatment For Shortness Of Breath And Mild Asthma

age 60 wht female I suffer shortness of breath,seems air just won't go in(can't get deep breath) all lung ex ray lung func test within norm range.Gen good health Full heart work up,all norm. so far only diag. "mild asthma" which asthma meds don't seem to make difference. In Q&A here problems w/larynx mentioned to someone else. if this could be me what are symptoms? I feel as if smothering. Then Pulmonologist says anxiety(maybe) but RX Xanax no change but sure am/was relaxed HA! Tossed out ! Don't believe I need possible addictive drug for this even with anxiety . If you recommend ENT what may I expect as check up there?Thank you in advance for any help/suggestions.

Dear friend,it is good that you have given your case history in detail.what I belief is you have not been given antiasthmatic drug in adequete.because this situation commonly occurs in case of obstructive pulmonary disease like asthma.so regular taking medicines like salbutamol in tablet or in inhaler will keep you free of symptoms.also as add-on we prescribe oral steroid only after a proper clinical check-up.and yes,anxiety also exacerbate asthma.in that case anxiolytic drug under a doctor's supervision can help to overcome this situation.but certaunly a visit to ENT specialist will not help you in this situation.instead you should first go for proper anti-asthmatic treatment.thank you.
