Hi,
Feeling shortness of breath, unable to do even usual work and feeling winded could be due to anemia. Get an hemoglobin check done. If the hemoglobin is low, he requires Vit B12 and Iron tablets to improve it depending on the cause of anemia.
I strongly doubt it could be a cold. However, try to improve the nutrition with more green leafy vegetables, fresh fruits, and eggs. This should improve his well being.
I dont think its common cold, as there are no signs of fever or nasal congestion.

Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further queries, happy to help.
