The common side effects of colchicines are nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea,
gastrointestinal hemorrhage, skin rashes, renal and hepatic damage in large doses. Rare side effects are
peripheral neuritis, myopathy, alopecia, inhibition of
spermatogenesis, bone marrow suppression,
thrombocytopenia and
aplastic anemia with prolonged use.
These side effects are temporary and reversible on stoppage of colchicines. Effect on sperm is rare and temporary. Gastrointestinal side effects are also temporary
Advice
1. Take colchicine after meal as suggested by your doctor
2. Domperidone 10 mg per oral when feeling nausea and vomiting
3. Avoid alcohol, smoking, spicy food, and non-steroidal pain killer for few days
4. Contact your doctor if you have blood vomiting or black stool
