Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am currently taking Capecitabine 3000mg qd. I am having a terrible time with Palmar-Plantar Erythrodysesthesia. My Oncologist ordered Gabapentin 300 mg qd and I am leery of taking it. This drug has many side effects and is used for seizures and neuropathies etc. Do you think it would help?
It is treated with a reduction of the dose of the drug that causes symptoms.
Application of local and systemic corticosteroid, dimethyl sulfoxide topical treatment.
Treatment with vitamin B6 is useful.
Gabapentin is not much useful in this condition in my point of view. But you may discuss with your doctor he may advise the drug for some other purpose.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Penchila Prasad Kandikattu, Internal Medicine Specialist
