Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had novacaine at the dentist yesterday. When I woke up this morning, my face was swollen from my eye down to my mouth. Called my dentist and they said if there was no pain, not to worry about it. I've never had an issue with novacaine, but it seems strange that it would be something else since it is on the side of my face where the injections were. Even after benadryl and advil, it is still puffy, especially just below my eye.
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
As per your complain if you had Novocaine injection previously also with no signs of any reaction then it does not seems to be due to allergic reaction.. Rather it can be due to either reaching of the injection needle to far behind into the venous plexus that is a mesh of veins leading to Hematoma formation..
Secondly it can also be due to ABSCESS formation secondary to dental treatment..
I would suggest you to consult an Oral Surgeon and get evaluated .. In case if needed an x ray will be advised..
If there is Hematoma formation then alternate warm and cool compresses will help.. In case of abscess formation treatment of tooth will help in reducing swelling.. As of now do cool compresses over it..
Hope this helps..
Regards.
