Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Suggest Treatment For Side Effects Of Pennsaid Ointment
I am taking an ointment called Pennsaid for pain along my leg, which has caused a red rash. Having just had a knee replacement recently, I am concerned that the rash may turn in to an infection and go to the knee. Is that a possibility? YYYY@YYYY
The rash very likely is due to the reaction to the cream. Unless the rash gets infected it is unlikely it will affect the knee. I would recommend you to thoroughly wash the area with warm water and soap to remove the cream completely and abstain from using the cream or any other local treatment. You should watch the area in the coming few days. If the rash is increasing or there is pain or swelling going on locally, it is best to see your doctor to rule out infection of the skin or of the knee.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Antoneta Zotaj, General & Family Physician
