Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I ve been on 50mg of Prednisone for an asthma flare up, other than having some symptoms from the drug (which the hospital have warned me about), I m now experiencing a feeling of heat on my face and neck which is also quite red. Is this just another harmless reaction or is this an allergic reaction? Thank you

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi,
Steroids are known to cause thinning of skin making it more sensitive to sunlight. Skin is made more oily resulting in more chances of acne.
The best way to prevent the side effects is by the gradual withdrawal of oral steroids. They can be replaced by inhaled steroids (effective in very less amount. Skincare with standard cosmetics/using sunscreen is other methods to prevent & improve skin side effects.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Vasudha Jayant Athavale,
