Hi,

Zen Retard tablet contains carbamazepine which is used to treat epilepsy or seizures, trigeminal neuralgia, diabetic nerve pain etc. Side effects of Zen Retard are dizziness, drowsiness, nausea, vomiting, loss of balance, slurred speech, blurred vision, dryness of mouth, itching, fatigue, weight gain, constipation, mood swings, suicidal tendencies, loss of libido, rashes, allergic reactions etc. Long term side effects of this medication may vary from person to person. While some people can take it safely for several years, some may develop side effects on using it for long term. These side effects include osteoporosis and osteopenia in which bones become weak and can get easily fractured. So, for a long term use of this medication, bone density should be checked at regular intervals. For preventing weight gain as well as osteoporosis and osteopenia, a healthy balanced diet and exercise daily should be maintained. This medication should be stopped after consulting the prescribing physician as missing even a single dose may trigger a seizure or patient's condition may get worse. It is advised to gradually decrease the dose of this drug so that the previous disease condition doesn't recur. In case of any side effects, the prescribing physician should be informed immediately.

Take care. Hope I have answered your questions. Let me know if I can assist you further.
