Yes, this can be treated effectively with
cephalosporin group of antibiotics, especially 3rd generation. No other test is required.
Along with antibiotics you also need steam inhalation. This promotes sinus ventilation and improve sinus
drainage.
If sinus pain present then you can take analgesics like
paracetamol.
If its not improving with antibiotics, then it can lead to other complications, that is involving eyes, brain. This risk is there for any
sinus infection depending the individuals immunity and resistance of organism not only for E Coli. So nothing to worry.
