Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Quite often I wakeup with a trerrible headache. I suffer from sleep apnea but sometimes even when I use the appliance I wakeup with a headache. Once, it was a a terrible headahe and I had to sit down for quite some minutes before I woke up!!! I am 71 years of age and take pills for cholestorol and blood pressure (which are now normal) and anti depression (20 mgrs). Lately I have a fan in my room and the heqadaches are still there, sometimes stronger. When I drink alcohol I also have headaches but I am OK with one particular brand of whisky! Sometimes I am very down! What is the position, please. Thanks.
As per my clinical experience, the sleep apnea and headache are in concern with possible lack of oxygenation to central nervous system most likely from current appliance adjustments. By the time, there is development of hypoxia, low respiratory drive with CO2 retention and secondary effects with headache, respiratory acidosis and further sequences.
My guidelines for better recovery: - Deep breathing exercises - Meditations and YOGA - Control of body weight - Maintain BMI below 28 - Adjustment of BIPAP machine with raised SiO2 - Supportive analgesic and sleeping pills as and when required - Avoid use of alcohol or smoking if applicable
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
