Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I m a 57 year old male I great shape and use supplemental O2 1.5 L/min while sleeping for what I assume is central sleep apnea. My pulmonary function is excellent, however when I relax and watch a football game or something in the afternoon my saturation may drop to as low as 85 percent. I can rapidly restore it to around 98 percent with about 5 deep breaths........what s Up Doc?
For sleep apnea, BiPAP is the right choice of device to use. As this will help by working on the inspiration and expiration process.
Most cases with sleep apnea are advised to used BiPAP and the outcome is good.
Also doing exercises for improving the strength in the muscles of the respiration is advised. Deep breathing exercises, huffing, coughing, segmental breathing exercises, etc.
Exercise plays an important role in sleep induced apnea. In my clinical practice of over 12 years most cases with sleep apnea have responded well to BiPAP and pulmonary rehabilitation.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
