Suggest Treatment For Small Lumps On The Side Of Neck

I just now discovered a cluster of small lumps in the side of my neck, principally on the right side. I was giving myself a neck massage and thought I felt 3-5 spider or mosquito bites on the right side and one on the left...only they were not sensitive to palpitation and seem to be in the blood vessel cluster itself. I had a slip on carpeted stairs about a month ago and gave myself an impressive bruise just above the outside of my elbow. There was also a half-chestnut size lump there I assumed was as much lymph as blood and it did subside over about 2 weeks. I am currently between insurance and not panicky, but am somewhat concerned I may have migrating blood clots. The very ball shaped lumps are quite firm, and I would say roughly bibi or pimple sized. Should I be seen at the ER?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Small bumps on the side of the neck commonly are caused by insect bite, lymph gland enlargement, bacterial / viral infection, skin cysts, swollen salivary glands, etc. Do not touch or scratch it. Take antihistamines to reduce the inflammation due to allergy or insect bite.

Get clinically examined by an ENT, he may suggest a biopsy to rule out malignancy. You may have to get CT / MRI. You will be treated accordingly with medicines, shots or surgery if required. Stay away from addictions if any. Stay well hydrated and avoid stressful lifestyle.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
