Hi,I am Dr. Alexander H. Sheppe (Psychiatrist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi. I'm Andrew, 30 years old. Been having problem for the past few days. I would wake up in the morning, spit the remaining saliva/phlegm or combination but its brownish in color. It only happens in the morning. none during the day, even when I cough out. A little history, I smoked for about 10 years around 6 sticks / day on the average. Quit almost 3 months ago. I'm having these withdrawal symptoms. Any analysis of what this brownish saliva/phlegm in the morning could be? Thanks so much.
Cannot say in your particular case, and, most people who quit cigarette smoking have gunk in the lung clear out over time. It is most prominent to get phlegm up in the a.m. because of lying down and time for it to collect. In this case it is not abnormal and other than hydration and maybe guafenesin no treatment is required.
