Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am a healthy 82 year old male in outstanding physical condition I maintain a 4 day per week exercise regimen at a fitness center and swim laps 2 days each week in addition to the gym, and have done this for 45 years. Suddenly, I have very sore nipples, and am unaware of what could possibly have caused this. I volunteer at Moffitt Cancer Certer (11 years), and am aware that men develop breast cancer. Is nipple pain (to the touch) symptomatic of breast cancer??
Try to consult and visit the hospital. The chances of breast cancer is there if there is some change in the nipple. This could be that the nipple flattens or turns inwards (inverted nipple). The nipple may become itchy or it might bleed or ooze some other discharge (liquid). A rash affecting the nipple. The nipple might become tender or painful. Changes in the size or shape of the breast. Swelling of the breast or a lump in the armpit. An ulcer or sore on the breast.
Occasionally, the first symptom that a man notices is a swollen lymph node under the arm. It is better to rule out major issues.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Anusha Molugu, Anesthesiologist
