Suggest Treatment For Sore Throat Along With Cough

Hi, I don t know if i need to go to the doctor tomorrow or just wait out the symptons. a week ago Monday, I started having a sore throat and cough that got worse after a few days. when I cough, a heavy mucus comes up. I thought it was a cold, some sneazing blowing my nose. I have been taking vit C every 2-4 hours and started taking sudephed every 6 hours. Sunday I backed off of the Sudephed to see if the cold had improved. It has not. on and off I also have had a fever of 1-2 degrees above normal as recently as last night and today. Normally, the vit c shortens and lessens the severity of the cold. what should i do? Charlotte YYYY@YYYY

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of sore throat along with cough which seems to be due to persistence of chest infection/ chronic upper respiratory tract infection.

Need not to worry about mucus in cough along with sneezing blowing nose as it occurs sometimes due to sinus infection. Avoid oily and sharp food. Drink plenty of fluids. I would suggest you to do warm saline gargles. You should visit ENT specialist once and get it examined. You should get paranasal sinus x-ray done along with throat swab test and blood tests and start treatment after proper diagnosis. Take proper course of antibiotics. Apply mist humidifiers in room. Avoid cold carbonated beverages.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
