Noted your history well and understood the concerns. Sore throat followed by congestion is definitely indicative of a condition called Pharyngitis and only a Doctor or ENT Specialist can examine to tell the cause, whether just edema, allergy or infection by virus or bacteria. Till then take liquid povidone iodine gargles. Anti-inflammatory medicine like Ibuprofen if it suits you. Rest. Soft warm diet and fluids. Further management of antibiotic if needed will be prescribed by your Doctor on examination and investigations if needed.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
