Suggest Treatment For Soreness On Arm After Checking BP Reading

Hello Dr. Rynne, I took my blood pressure 3 times(I shouldn t have) throughout the day with an at-home tester and my arm became sore by the third time. I was wondering what could the soreness be? It has become much worse since I moved my arm in a particular way. Also, my arm feels very slightly light and/or airy at the moment. And it hurts when I apply pressure right behind my shoulder near the joint. Thanks for any help, Dr. Rynne!

Anesthesiologist 's  Response
Hello,

Pain in your arm may be due to the following:
1) Muscle strain
2) Rotator cuff strain
3) Cervical radiculopathy
4) Brachial plexus injury
5) Frozen shoulder

Treatment depend upon the cause and clinical examination is necessary to arrive at a specific diagnosis. You can take the following for pain relief:
1) Pain medications like NSAIDs Ibuprofen and Naproxen can be taken twice daily for 2 weeks
2) To prevent gastric ulcer, tab. Pantop 40 mg once daily before food is advised
3) For people with heart failure, clotting abnormalities, NSAIDs are not recommended instead opioids like Hydrocodone, Oxycodone and Tramadol are used
4) Physical therapy including therapeutic ultrasound and muscle strengthening exercises are advised
You can meet an orthopedic surgeon for detailed clinical examination and appropriate treatment.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Pallavi M., Anesthesiologist
