Suggest Treatment For Speech Delay In A Child

..hi Dr My son is 2.3 yrs old and is going for a adenoid surgery as the adeniod has blocked his nose and caused a fluid in the middle ear caUSING recurrent cough and flu, sometimes sleep disorders and speech delay. right now he speaks few words around 10 and its looks like a speech delay. i am concerned about his speech and hearing. Please advise. concerned mother from Dubai

Hi, thanks for asking.
I can understand your concerns.
Fluid in the middle ear can cause hearing problems. After the adenoid surgery and after the fluid in the middle ear has cleared you can go for a hearing test for him.
Also around ten words at this age is speech delay. Does he use signs to communicate?
If such a child comes to my clinic I would like to assess his non verbal communication and socialization as well as hearing to rule out hearing problems, autism and language delay.
