Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 83 year old father has spinal stenosis and is in extreme pain. He has tried everything non surgical (including injections/epidurals) to alleviate pain and manage it for years. He is at the point where medication (Percocet) no longer works and he is not sleeping. Limping from pain. He has had 2 opinions for surgery but I am concerned he is at risk in surgery since he has high cholesterol, and takes Coumadin. He is under a cardiologist s care who has cleared him for surgery. I am concerned about his coming through surgery and then the after effects with rehab/recovery time and pain management if needed. Is he trading this pain for different pain and ongoing pain meds need - basically what he is doing now. Is this a good move?

Hi, Consult an orthopedics and get evaluated. Newer modalities like steroid injection can be tried for best results. Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Regards, Dr. Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
