Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I ve had a sprained ankle for about three weeks. I haven t seen a doctor yet and am wondering what the time limit is that I should go see one. It s not as swollen as it first was, but there is some still there. I still can t walk on it or put any pressure on it. I haven t had to take any Tylenol in quite some time, because the pain is not as much. I did not hear a snap when I fell, so I really don t think it s broke, but I m not positive it doesn t have a hair line fracture.
It sounds like you have a ligament sprain over the area. There are 2 ligaments around the ankle that are most likely affected. These are either the inner or the outer ankle ligaments.
Treatment for this is as follows. Rest the ankle and avoid walking as much as possible. Use crutches if needed Ice the area for 10 to 15 mins Use a warm pack alternatively for 2 mins Mobilise the joint with slow ankle rotations
You can also use a painkiller gel over the area to help with the symptoms and reduce the pain.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
