Hello,
Your daughter has a history of having
allergy to Niacin. Niacin, is Vitamin B3 that helps to maintain good health and is given to patients to improve
cholesterol levels. Niacin when given in high doses may cause GIT problems,
glucose intolerance, allergy or
liver damage. Your daughter can stop taking Niacin since she has allergy. Taking a well balance home made healthy diet, regular walking and healthy lifestyle can improve any developing cardiac illness.
Your daughter should get routine cardiac health check up done. This will include blood tests, lipid function tests,
urinalysis, EKG,
Echocardiography, stress tests, etc. The above tests are done to detect Coronary artery disease. She will be accordingly treated after the pathology is detected. In the meantime, if obese she should lose weight and maintain healthy weight.
She should avoid taking
trans fat, full fat dairy products, cheese, sugary products, packed or frozen food, red meat, oily spicy junk food, etc. She can take boiled food, food cooked in olive oil, lean meat, veggies and fruits, eggs, well cooked whole cereals. She is suggested to stay well hydrated, avoid addictions of any kind & take adequate sleep.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
