Suggest Treatment For Stiffness And Pain In The Knee
My right knee is stiff and I am experiencing some pain when I try to bend it. I visited my doctor today who diagnose arthritis and drew fluid from my knee. I got an injection (don t know name). He recommended zerodol -p and Trabilin. He has also recommended predrisone. I was once diagnose with gout and a cancerous tumor in my right kidney. The right kidney was removed 9 years ago with no spread. I am highpertensive(controlled). What are your thoughts on the medication prescribed especially the predrisone.
Pain and fluid collection in right knee indicates arthritis. Medicines to control pain and swelling should take care of 1) Cause of arthritis(Rheumatic/Gouty/ Degenerative) 2) Coexisting diseases (Hypertension/Renal disease) 3) Duration and severity of disease/disability. Paracetamol is the medicine of choice to control pain in your case. Pain killers belonging to class NSAIDs like aceclofenac, diclofenac, ibuprofen, indomethacin should be avoided in your case having a single kidney with hypertension. The wholesome management for your case is mnemonic PRICE. P - Paracetamol (ER 1000mg BD for 7days), R-Rest, I- Ice fomentation, C- Compression bandage, E- Elevation of knee while sleeping. Tramadol/Trabilin is safe for kidneys and can be given in your case for pain relief. Steroid/prednisone injection in joint space is fine. I have reservations using oral prednisone for more than 1 week. Do check uric acid levels and take medicine to control it also if elevated. Rosehip seed and Devilsclaw powder are safe herbal medicines which also reduce joint inflammation and pain.
