Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Stretch marks are usually caused by stretching of the skin caused by rapid weight gain, fluctuation in weight and in
pregnancy. They are also caused by frequent use of corticosteroid creams, lotions and pills which weaken the elastic ability of the skin. Stretch marks are mainly genetic but they can also be caused by a condition which causes overproduction of steroid hormones.
There are several ways of treatment, such as
tretinoin cream (
Retin-A) but avoid these if you are pregnant of
breastfeeding. Light and
laser therapy are also a good way to take care of stretchmarks, although a bit on the pricey side. However this therapy needs to be tailored and properly recommended by your doctor.
Microdermabrasion is another method which involved gentle removal of a layer of the skin by promoting the growth of new, more elastic skin. But, if stretch marks are covering considerable areas of your body then, first of all, I recommend you see a doctor for further evaluation and determination of the proper treatment. Wishing you all the best.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
