Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
my wife experienced some sun poisoning bumps while we were in Aruba 3 days ago. We are back in NY now, and she says the bumps are spreading . This doesn t sound like sun poisoning to me. Can the sun poisoning bumps continue to show up even after you get out of the sun? out of the sun for days?
Since you have been back from Aruba it looks like the bumps are due to sea lice or some stinging critters in the waters.
Some patients complain of getting infected with hives after their trip to the Caribbeans.
Your wife should take non-sedating antihistamines like Levocetirizine, once daily at bed time for 5 days. If needed she can take it twice daily if the bumps are resistant.
She can apply hydrocortisone / Neosporin / Calamine lotion locally on the affected areas. If should subside.
However, it is better to get examined by a dermatologist & have tests done to rule out hives, contact dermatitis, etc to be on the safer side.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Nupur K, General & Family Physician
