Suggest Treatment For Swelling And Discoloration Of Eyebrow After Injury
My 6 year old hit her eyebrow on the monkey bars. it swelled up (soft and squishy) and turned a deep purple and black color. It’s been a week and she still has discoloration that has moved under the eye, but is turning green. My concern is there is a very hard now on the eyebrow now. Is this something i need to be worried about? Could she have fractured her eyebrow bone?

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi,
Your child had a hard jolt on eye brow causing soft tissue injury leading to small capillaries broken to cause different color changes because of blood oozing in tissues. It would have been hurting, and swelling would not have decreased. If it were fracture, still looking at her age, it's advisable to consult a surgeon and get fracture excluded.
Get needful treatment. The edema of soft tissue has descended down in loose tissue under eye. Giving the same color pattern and should settle to normal in 3 weeks time. She can be given anti inflammatory pills, cold pack / Thrombophobe ointment (not to enter the eye) and antibiotic if advised by her doctor.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
