Suggest Treatment For Swelling And Rashes On The Shin

Hi I got serval bites from something not sure what on my shin at first it seemed like any normal insect bite 7 days later my shin started to swell then went down a bit the next day. However I broke out in a rash that in the course of two days has spread over 60 percent of my body. I travel a lot due work and at the time I am on the Isle of Wight I found a walk in centre and went there and have been prescribed flucloxacillin 500 mg four times a day but also told the rash may get worse before it gets better. I am extremely concerned as every day it seems to spread more and more. Will the flucloxacillin work? is it the best thing ? And due to me traveling so much what do I do when the seven day course is done and if it s still not gone? Also I drive around 500 to 700 miles a week will I be safe driving the info in the box says yes but I drive more than most people do?

Allergist and Immunologist 's  Response
Hi,

This situation may be triggered from several causes like an insect bite, a viral/infectious condition, medication that you are taking, a food that you may be sensitive to.

Are they itchy? Do you have them sometime in other part of the body? Do you have also difficulties in swallowing or breathing? I would suggest to start with your diet. You should not eat food that promotes the inflammation such as canned food, alcohol, spices.

You also have to take an antihistamine for several days, if the situation persists you should meet a doctor and I think he would prescribe corticosteroids too.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
