Suggest Treatment For Swelling And Redness On The Left Eyelids

I have a scratch/cut on my left eyelid it s a little swollen , the cut has a scab on it but my eye is really red and its sensitive to light. No mucus it doesn t hurt only when I look into light....is it just really irritated or infected ? I ve been using over the counter eye drops for redness and they work for about a hour but then redness comes back...do you think it s infected ?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Sensitivity to light generally is a symptom that warrants a quick visit with an ophthalmologist (an eye doctor). Sensitivity to light may show serious damage to the cornea or increased pressure in the eye. Both of these conditions need to be quickly and properly evaluated/treated.
Be cautious of eye drops if they are not prescribed by a doctor, especially if they contain steroids as these may cause infections to spread or the pressure in the eye to increase.

I hope this answers your query. I remain at your disposal for further medical assistance.

I wish you good health.

Regards,
Dr. Antoneta Zotaj,
