Suggest Treatment For Swelling And Severe Pain In Toenail Caused Due To Vertical Splitting

banged my foot 10 hours ago very hard, the big toenail split vertically almost to the bottom & is barely hanging on. It took a good 2 hours to stop bleeding profusely, is now extremely swollen, black & blue, & still throbbing very painfully. I have sterile gauze loosely wrapped around it as it s still oozing. I already am taking 800mg tid Ibuprofen for severe, chronic plantar fasciitis. It is too painful to try putting ice or even a wet cloth on it to attempt to reduce the swelling. Any suggestions?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Go immediately to ER or to local clinic. The toe nail may need to be removed and sterilised. You may need to take oral antibiotics.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Olgeta Xhufka, General & Family Physician
