Suggest Treatment For Swelling And Tenderness On Forearm

I have faint redness, swelling, tenderness and warm to touch on my forearm around the site of an IV line that was put in at the ER last Wednesday. I thought it was cellulitis but now the swelling and firmness seem to follow the vein. What do you think?

Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
By your history and description, possibility of thrombophlebitis is more.
It is inflammation of vein due to intravenous cannulation and intravenous drugs.
This is common so no need to worry much.
Apply ice packs on affected area. Take painkiller and anti inflammatory drugs.
Keep that forearm elevated.
You will mostly improve with all these in 2-3 days. If not improving after 2-3 days consult doctor.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.
