Suggest Treatment For Swelling In The Ankles

I broke my ankle in two places and anticipate the ligaments/tendons may be torn especially after seeing it bent at the angle it was during the injury. Until the swelling goes down, Monday will be a week, the orthopedic has me in a hard/soft/soft/looser???? cast and cant do much more until the swelling goes down. Can torn cartilage/ligaments/tendons heal by themselves?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Your symptoms seem to be related to the fracture.

I recommend using anti-inflammatory medication to reduce the swelling such as Ibuprofen.

I also recommend using ice compresses for local application.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi,
