Suggest Treatment For Swelling In The Calf Muscles Caused By A Bee Sting

A bee sting in the night was followed in the morning by swelling of the calf in the leg that was stung, so that the circumference of the calf exceeded that of the unaffected calf by 40 mm. Investigation by ultrasound demonstrated the presence of deep-vein thrombosis throughout the leg that was stung. Is it possible that the bee sting was the cause of the DVT?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

It is an allergic reaction to bee sting.
As of now you can use analgesics/anti-inflammatory combination like aceclofenac/serratiopeptidase for symptomatic relief. An antihistamine like cetirizine also required.
If symptoms persist, it is better to consult a physician and get evaluated.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
