Suggest Treatment For Swelling In The Feet

I have had ongoing swelling in my feet (especially left), ankles and legs since April, right after I noticed a tick bite on my back. My doctor refused to run any bloodwork at all, since it did not have the bulls-eye around it. I ve never had swelling before except 29 years ago in my last month of pregnancy. In June my lips started aching with pain and this has continued and not gotten any better too. Again, I ve never had this symptom, and it is quite unusual. For the past two months it has been constant, and feels like my lips will split open. I am trying to change doctors now, since I ve tried to see my current doctor again, but nobody will get back with my about an appt. Just wondering if these symptoms may be related and associated with a tick bite or if it could be some other kind of underlying medical issue. I will turn 55 in Sept. I take no meds. But I have a family history of heart disease, many cancers, etc.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

(1) With age or if a person had a clot, the valves and veins do not work as they should so blood builds up and swelling occurs.
(2) Varicose veins may be seen.
(3) Liver, kidney or heart disease- a disease of any of these swelling to occur.
(4) Low levels of protein in the body

To find the cause, you would need to be assessed by your doctor. This would include a physical examination and possibly blood tests (to check kidneys and liver).

If there are other heart-related symptoms, tests such as an ECG may also be needed. Treatment would depend on the cause found.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ivan R. Rommstein, General Surgeon
