Suggest Treatment For Swelling In The Forehead After Injury
Husband using power saw/pruner on trees overhead; tool got stuck, he tugged it with full body strength, causing it to fall from above, hitting him hard on forehead above right eyebrow. He was wearing ball cap which offered some protection. Blunt puncture injury that immediately became swollen. I haven t closely examined wound yet, but it seemed to stopped bleeding with pressure and ice pack applied. He was sweaty and shakey afterwards, but says he did not lose consciousness. Please advise on what else we should do or watch for. Is it ok to give him ibuprofen, or wait and monitor alertness for awhile first?
Kindly examine the wound to see whether it is deep and requires stitches.
If he is on any blood thinners or has a condition which causes prolonged bleeding, you need to go to the ER and get a CT scan of the head done.
These are the things you need to watch out for. However, I would suggest you to visit the ER anyway and get a CT done as he has had injury with a heavy object. Rest what immediate measures you have taken are correct. Continue to apply pressure and ice packs for bleeding. You can give him a pain killer only if he is in too much pain. If tolerable, avoid taking anything by mouth atleast for the next 2-4 hours.
Hope this helps.
Regards, Dr Geeta
